Next stop after the Prague Castle? Vienna’s Belvedere Palace, a beautiful Baroque palace-turned-museum with the main residence sitting on lush green grass – even on a nippy November day.

Much of the building is preserved to give tourists a view of the royal family’s daily lives. Audio tours are available, but if you rather not pay for admission there is a peaceful three-tier palace garden free of charge.

Prague Castle – the largest medieval castle in Europe and the capital’s top attraction. The current President of the Czech Republic, and past kings of the empire, has a home the size of SEVEN football fields. That’s a whole lot of cleaning.

Good thing they kept plenty of domestic helpers nearby back then on Golden Lane, home to servants, goldsmiths, alchemists and renown writer Franz Kafka. This street located within the castle walls is lined with miniature houses better suited for dwarves than even for a girl at 5’1”. While some of these homes have been turned into tourist shops, others have been frozen in time behind glass walls.

Dreary weather usually makes me want to crawl back in bed. In Prague though, the foggy gloom adds character to the “City of a Hundred Spires”. The weather gives the capital a gothic feel, which was quite fitting for Halloween.

After a quick view of the Astronomical Clock and heavy goulash for dinner last night, I walked over The Charles Bridge to get to the John Lennon Wall. The 30 statues the line both sides of the bridge kind of blended into the dull night sky so I didn’t think much of it in the dark.
