My favorite three things to do in DC: see pandas at the national zoo, roam through the Hirschhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden and visit Georgetown University.

Smithsonian National Zoo

Unless you’re going to Atlanta, Memphis or San Diego, your only chance to see giant pandas are in DC’s national zoo. It’s the only panda conservation on the east coast.

Smithsonian Museums are the most popular attraction in DC. You can spend an entire weekend there and still not see everything. My favorite, by far, is the Hirschhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden. It always features awesome contemporary exhibits. When lived in DC a few years ago, Ai Wei Wei’s Zodiac Heads were a big hit. http://hirshhorn.si.edu/collection/home/#collection=home

Georgetown University

I regret not spending more time outdoors when I was at Georgetown. The campus is beautiful and serene. The lawn outside of Healy Hall is you’d typically see on a college brochure. Healy Hall is a National Historic Landmark with beautiful gothic architecture. There’s a tradition at the school where students would steal the clock hands on the Healy Clock Tower and mail them to the person they wished to visit the campus.

Now that you have some ideas to start planning your itinerary, it’s time to figure out where to eat in DC!
